Cut Pieces

This project started out with the idea of knockdown configurable furniture. I knew I needed the ability to make quick tables for painting or staining. Esentially being able to make saw horses to outfeed rollers to stools to tables for whatever projects I had to do. I wanted to use cheap big box 1x4x8 to make the bonez I use 1 inch dowels centered in the splines to extend joints. Theres a 1 inch indent that the dowell fits into.

I went through 3 versions before I settled on this one. it seemed to be the most efficient design. the bonez are 18 inches long and 3/4 wide. The area around the splines and slots is 1/2". I have locked two together to make a more supportive structure.

Sample Usage

Prototype rug hooking frame made using PolyBonez.

This is a rug frame stand I put together out of PolyBonez. I have made out feed stands and a shelf unit. By lengthening the bonez and the dowels I should be able to expand what I can make. I've been using plywood to make the tops of the stools and shelves. The slots allow me to bolt whatever I need to the side. I plan on using harder denser wood for the projects that really need to hold the weight.

The dowels I'm using are 1" Poplar dowels. Again I'll probably use Oak dowels for the projects that need to hold alot of weight. I built a jig that allows me to drill a 5/16 hole down the center of the dowell. I insert a 1/4-20 threaded insert. I can then bolt to the end of the dowel securing it inside the splines.

I haven't finished these yet but my plan is to use a light shelac or maybe an oil based stain. I have really only begun to explore what I can build with these. With a CNC time of 15-20 Minutes I can produce quite a few in a short time.
